I faughth with the fan clutch and decided to remove it completely.
Use an air-chisel and knock the nut loose.
I run a 180 degree t-stat and have no overheating issues. The electric fan kicks in and cools when sitting for more than 15-20 min.

|||put the old belt around the pulley and cinch it up tight with a pair of vice grips. this will give you a grip on the pulley without damaging it. however it will probably ruin the belt so you will need to replace it anyway. belts are cheaper than special tools.|||I think you%26#039;ll find assorted holes or grooves in that pulley that you can put a ratchet through and a socket so you can hold the pulley with a ratchet as you try getting at the fan clutch.Even if a bolt loosens some on the water pump pulley it can give you the leverage and you can always re-tighten it later.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I always buy a service manual like Haynes for any car I buy and I find they can come in very handy at times like this especially.|||Also you could try a very large pair of channel locks to hold the pulley.
And put the wrench on the fan clutch nut and give the wrench a quick whack with a rubber mallet to shock it and loosen the fan clutch.
Autozone does rent a holding tool and wrench
Pep boys sells the tool..
