Gearbox/clutch problem in fiesta?

Bought ford fiesta encore 16v 1.25l 1998

After 2 day couldn put gears and i see that one of the liquids is lrunning out.

Mechanic told me that this lick is in gearbox and he have to open it and fix plus is good to change clutch as well.

He told me that becouse of that gearbox it will cost me 250-300pounds inc.labor.

Anyone seen that problem b4 and is it really so expensive?

Not sure he dont want to rip me off my money.

An ideas?

Bad design to put the hydraulic clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing otherwise it wouldn't cost more than 拢20-拢30.If the gearbox needs to be removed then about 4 hours work all told so Desert Camel is accurate with his price.If you have a new clutch,a slave cylinder or washer repair kit and clutch fluid then it wouldn't be far off the quote you,ve been given with VAT added.Perhaps you wont need a new clutch but if you are keeping the car it would be wise to have one if the old one is quite worn

firstly your clutch pedal do's this feel normal ? is it softer that before ? i feel that the amount you have been quoted is very high ,if the clutch pedal feels softer then i would think that the thrust bearing has leaked all the fluid but you don't say what the Colour of the Fluid leaking out is ? this could be gearbox oil , then in this case i would replace the gearbox if the gear box housing has a hole in it i would recommend you get a second opinion , are u a member of the aa , or rac , they would be the people to ask what the problem is ,or find a garage that has been recommend by a good friend , it sounds odd to me because the labour will be more if you want a clutch change, and fluid topped up and a release bearing ,i hope this helps
bit steep,but he may be correct...the zitec fiesta has a hydraulic clutch,its inside the clutch bell housing,and yes the box has to come off to get to it.part itself will only be around 拢20,...it may pay you to also replace the full clutch if its been contaminated with brake/clutch fluid.]

get quotes from other,backstreet garages...dont pay more than 拢125 labour.
sounds like you need check out hydrolic clutch may be leaking,worst thing ford brought out, still wont be that dear, get second quote
