Why does my car rev when I press the clutch pedal?

I have a 1997 fiesta flight engine size 1299.Lately when I press the clutch ( changing gear, completely stopping) the car revs loudly and jerks forward. It doesn%26#039;t happen all the time but obviously there is something wrong.|||Hi, MSC is on the right track. The accelerator linkage could be hanging up, some oil or grease might do some good. The engine goes to idle when you disengage the transmission. If the idle is up the engine will rev. The Idle Air Controller (IAC) could be faulty, you can scan the computer and find out. The first thing to check are the vacuum lines, they will make the engine idle up. Check clutch freeplay and if it%26#039;s less than 1%26quot;, adjust it. If the clutch is a cable, oil or grease where you can, make sure it moves smoothly. If either cable isn%26#039;t smooth, replace them. Good Luck, Geo|||sounds like you need a new clutch....almost sure of it.|||you could have an emissions problem and when you relieve the load on the engine the emissions system is trying to clean the exhaust and by doing so it causing the engine to rev up. The other thing is check you clutch cable and see if it is interfering with and electronics or wires as well as the throttle cable.
