I have a 2000 Vauxhall Astra and the clutch on the air con pump is not working. Can the clutch be changed?

I Have had the system charged with gas and there are no leaks. An auto electrician says that the clutch on the pump is faulty. Can this clutch be replaced whilst the pump is on the car as if the pump has to be removed then the system will have to be de-gassed?

it most certainly can. if you do change it id advise you also change the bearing for the free spining pully too as they do have a tendancy to seize which locks the belt up so while it is off may as well be safe. but befor you do actually change the clutch id do a little fault diagnosis first. make sure the cable that goes into the pump has a live feed when you turn the aircon on and also make sure the pump is well earthed because if you have a fault with either of these the clutch wont engage

Hi

If it is the clutch i would change the whole unit to be safe

you can get exchange units at reasonable price now with warrenty so no problems then you are only doing the job once

Its odd for that to have gone on the astra already do you have lots of miles on

Hope this helps
