Do engine mounts need removing when doing clutch change on a mk4 Golf?

The mounting collapsed on my way home from work. The AA guy said the bolts might not have been put back on properly?!

mk4 golf has different mounts from mk1,2 and 3

one on the engine at cambelt end

2 on the gearbox. ( 1 takes the weight and the other is a stay/tie bar )



In doing the clutch both the mountings which attach the gearbox are removed.

If it's the same as all the other model golfs then yes one mounting hold the whole lot via the Gearbox and the engine has to be support with a jack whilst the gearbox is off
